We depart Johannesburg at 04H00 in the morning and take the 7 hour drive through to Sodwana. Upon arrival, we will have lunch and allow a few hours to relax and stretch the old legs out from the drive down. After your brief siesta, we get to it!!!

Our port of call today is Mabibi Beach situated 38 km from Sodwana. The average riding time is about 4 hours. The first part of the ride is pretty spectacular as we ride along the beach from Jessers point to 9 mile beach. Our main concern on this leg of the tour is the tides. We need to time is just right that we are on the ride at low tide.

The route then makes its way up through the coastal dunes on jeep tracks towards the southern part of Lake Sibaya. This Lake is South Africa’s largest Fresh water lake as well as a world heritage site. The scenery is so African!!! Hippos, crocodiles, Fish Eagles are the order of the day. We will take some time here to take in the tranquillity and magic of this place. Oh yes, and we will give you some drinks and snacks to fuel you up for the last part of the ride which is through to the remote Mabibi Beach Camp. This is a snorkeler’s paradise!!!

An early day today. We start our ride through to Kosi Bay Lodge. The route goes inland towards the Rocktail Bay Lodge where we will have breakfast.

The ride continues through the Coastal dunes to what is known as Lala Nek beach where we will have something to eat and drink. And then it’s back to the beach for the final stretch to Banga Nek via the secluded and magical Black Rock and Castle Rock beaches. At Banga we carry the bikes over the massive sand dune where we are met by our boat at the Kosi Bay Lake shoreline.

We then pile into the boat and enjoy a sundowner cruise with a beer or two as we head towards our camp for the night. Riding distance today is 48km lasting about 7 hours.

After breakfast, we ride of into the coastal dunes towards the South African/Mozambique border post. A quick stamp off the passport and it’s a 10km ride to Pinto do Ouro and then on to Ponto Malangane. We will have a stunning seafood lunch at the  well-known ‘Come to See’ restaurant before allowing our fat bellies to free wheel us into the magnificent Tartaruga Lodge.

The rest of the day is all yours. Probably best spent swimming in the warm Indian Ocean or just catching up on your tan on the beach.  An evening braai (BBQ in South African) around a roaring fire is the plan for the evening. Riding distance today is 31km over about 3 hours. Easy Peasy!

After breakfast, bid Mozambique a fond farewell and head on back to Johannesburg.
