Where is the Askari Game Lodge Situated?
The Askari Game Lodge and Spa is situated about 75 minutes’ drive from Johannesburg. Nice and close. Perfect for travellers with limited time on their hands. The lodge is within the Plumari Private Game reserve which is home to the Big 5. (lion, elephant, African Buffalo, leopard and Rhino).
The reserve is situated in the province of North West and therefore Malaria free. The Plumari reserve is just over 5000 hectares in size.
The fauna and flora of the area is typical of the African bush. There is an abundance of plants, birds and animal species. The main lodge is an old farmhouse that overlooks the Elephant Dam. The décor is fascinating a it will feel like you are taking a trip back in time. There are some incredible relics dating back to the 1800’s.
The antique Oregon furniture, luggage chests and washstands are placed intimately within the 4-star surrounding to emphasize the interesting history of the Magaliesberg area.

Best time to visit?
The area has basically 2 seasons. The Summer months from October to April. And the Winter months from May to September. In summer we experience hot temperatures with sporadic thunderstorms. This means the area is nice and green.
In the winter months the temperatures are a bit lower, but we do not get rain. This results in dry and dusty conditions.
Having said that, any time of the year is good to visit. The weather and conditions rarely affect the animal sightings and overall safari experience.
