Part 1 of the tour
The first part of the Elephant Walk, Lesedi Cultural Village and Farmers Market Day Tour includes a 1 hour walk with 3 semi habituated elephants in their natural environment. Yes sireee, you heard correct…in their natural environment. They are not kept in cages or made to do tricks. The 3 elephants roam freely and you will get to walk with them and observe them as they eat, drink and fart in true African Elephant style. What makes this part of the day tour from Johannesburg so unique? Well its he only tour in South Africa that has an elephant as a tour guide.
We would love to take the role to boost our ego and give us that sense of power but alas…we are no match for these 4 ton beasties. So we humbly make way for the elephants on this part of the day tour. And yes, it is totally safe. The elephants are semi habituated and have been around humans since they were small. The walk is observational which means and you will be accompanied with rangers to ensure that you adhere to the walking protocols.
Walking distance you may be wondering? Well we cant give you an exact calculation as we have no idea what mood the elephants are in. But on average you are looking at about 1km. Good walking shoes ae a must as we are walking in the bush which is also very uneven depending on the route taken. Trust us….this is an incredible and ethical experience.
Part 2 of the Elephant Walk, Lesedi Cultural Village and Farmers Market Day Tour
What would a day tour be without a bit of South African culture? Travel is all about immersing yourself in the culture and soul that makes up a country. And there is no better way to do it than a visit to the Lesedi Cultural Village. You will embark on a magical tour of the working village with the ‘zulu warrior’ as your tour guide.
He will take you through the 5 main tribal villages that make up the rainbow nation of South Africa. The highlight of this tour is a 30 minute traditional dancing and drumming session.
Part 3 of the tour
The final chapter of this day tour concludes with a visit to The Stables Village Market. What makes this market so cool? Well is has microbrewery for starters. So, if you up for it we can take you through the brewery and sample a few of the delectable amber fluids available. And of course, there is a really cool farmers market vibe on the go which includes stalls where you can buy various items from clothing to ornaments, a wide selection of food from Spanish, to free range roasts….and music.
This is the perfect end to your day tour as you get unwind with the locals with a beer, good food music. There is even an oyster and bubbly bar that serve THE BEST oysters in the Southern Hemisphere. You gotta try them with a splash of tomato cocktail, tabasco and brandy….they are divine.
Tour Reviews
I had a wonderful experience on this trip. The time I spent walking with the elephants was one of the best experiences of my life. The matriarch, Three, was so gentle and being able to interact with her was amazing. I was not exactly sure what to expect at the Lesedi cultural tour (it seemed kind of cheesy to me) but I learned so much and everything was beautifully presented. My experiences with South Africa Adventures have been perfect. I could not have asked for a company to be better. They were on time and everything was taken care of in the best way possible. I never had a worry. What a great way to take a tour.
Hi John,
thankyou for the positive feedback. We are super glad that you had a great tour.
