What makes this Full Day Elephant Walk, Lion Park and Cultural Village Tour so incredible is that it is a combination of nature and cultural activities. How awesome is that? You get the best of both worlds on this tour. And that is what South Africa is all about-a rich cultural heritage and of course its animals.
So what is the Full Day Elephant Walk, Lion Park and Cultural Village Tour all about?
Walk with Elephants
The first part of the day tour includes a 1 hour in the African bush with 3 free roaming elephants. The only tour in South Africa where your tour guide is a 5 ton elephant. And let us tell you about elephants. They go where they want to go. We are not going to argue with them. So yes there is going to be a bit of walking involved. But stress not. The distance all depends on the energy levels of the elephants. Sometimes they just chill by a tree eating. And sometimes they go for a slow stroll. But we won’t cover more than about 1 kilometre on the tour.
Is it safe to walk with elephants?
The elephants are what we called semi-habituated. All of them were rescued from reserves that were not looking after them properly at a young age. So although they roam free on the reserve, they are used to humans. They are also accompanied by 3 rangers during the day to ensure they don’t destroy the trees in one area and rather move around the whole reserve. The elephants are not made to do tricks or stand on one foot! They are free roaming. So in terms of ethics and how they are treated, you have no need to worry.
NOTE: No children under 10 allowed
Lesedi Cultural Village
After you have managed to not get stomped on by a 5 ton elephant we take you to the colourful cultural village known as Lesedi– which means ‘light’ in Sesotho. This fascinating village is led by a ‘zulu’ warrior who will take you on an incredible tour around the 5 various tribal villages that make up South Africa. At each village he will explain the history and heritage of each tribal unit.
The tour ends of with 30 minute drumming and dancing session that will blow your mind and leave you with an incredible tingling feeling that Lesedi is famous for. We then get invited to lunch with the zulu chief in the dining room boma. The food served is traditional South African food and includes items like crocodile, lots and lots of neat dishes, vegetables and of course…’pap’, the staple diet of most Africans.
The Lion Park
Once we have fattened you up with a good meal we take the 5 minute drive through to the Lion Park where the lions will be smacking their lips in anticipation of their next tourist meal. But that is only if you are not behaving of course. Or your spouse slips the guide a tip to accidentally drop off their other half in the feeding area of the lions.
We spend about 2 hours in the Lion Park exploring the various attraction spots. We will take a drive into the lion enclosure where you will get up close and personal with the King of the Jungle. We will also spend some time with the cubs and wild dogs.
