Not only is it close enough to enjoy a safari but is also becoming one of the most ‘brew-centric’ areas in South Africa. If beer, safari and good food is your thing, then this tour is for you.

Let’s get straight to the ‘pint’

Let us take you on a road of discovery with your own ‘crafted’ beer tour into the heart and soul of a local beerhouse known as the Chartwell Micro Brewery. You will get to learn about the creation of “The Buzzard” brew, learn about the brewing process, taste the finest beer and of course…travel in safety and style with your South Africa Adventure guide.

What is the Safari and Craft Brewery day tour all about?

We have combined the thrill of an authentic South African Safari with a visit to a local micro-brewery. Enjoy a complimentary pick up from your hotel by our guide. We travel in an air-conditioned van through to the Plumari Private game reserve. The drive takes about 75 minutes from Johannesburg and offers some panoramic views of the ancient Magaliesberg mountains.

It is here that you will embark on an incredible 3-hour safari with the resident ranger. The reserve is home to the Big 5 (lion, leopard, elephant, African Buffalo and Rhino) as well as an abundance of other wildlife species that include zebra, giraffe, wildebeest, warthog, hippo and many types of antelope.  We then take the scenic 60-minute drive through to The Stables Village Market, home to the Chartwell Micro Brewery Beer Garden. First up is a guided tour of the brewery where you will get to see how the local brew, ‘The Buzzard’ is produced.

The guide will take you through the various stages of the brewing process as well as the history, development, and future of the beer. The rest of the afternoon is spent in the pub or beautiful setting of the beer garden enjoying not only the beer but a scrumptious traditional feast prepared by the local chefs.

About the Chartwell Brewery

Johannesburg is the right choice when it comes to enjoying the various craft beers the city has to offer. It’s obvious to those who follow craft beer trends that something special is happening in the world of South African beer. Moritz Kallmeyer,  who began his own beer-making journey 10 years ago has risen from the primordial swamps of brewing ooze to become, by his own admission, one of the best brewers in Johannesburg. His credentials and brewing experience are difficult to dispute. The beer is brewed using local Cape Malted Barley and Outeniqua Hops passionately grown in the infamous Garden Route area of the Eastern Cape.

His modesty, however, masks the true reality of his talent with the birth of his flagship beer known as ‘The Buzzard’.  Conjuring mystical visions of humble entrepreneurs brewing in their sheds and gathering high praise for their rich and explosive flavors, craft breweries like the Chartwell Micro Brewery in Johannesburg have boomed in popularity. One of the most noticeable characteristics of the Chartwell Brewery is its goal to source local, culture-rich ingredients that just make their brews sing.

Welcome to the home of The Buzzard Beer!!!

A cool and laid-back venue situated a mere 20 minutes from most suburbs in Johannesburg. Nestled in the trees of Chartwell, the micro-brewery offers the finest ales, wines, spirits and delicious farmhouse feasts in a welcoming and chilled out surroundings. The Chartwell Brewery has long been known for its great local music, a fantastic setting and scrumptious meals.

The Chartwell Brewery Goal?

Simply put, their goal is to share the finest South African Beer with our guests from all over the world.  The owners are dedicated to uplifting the local community and their drive is to empower the staff and include them in the business model of the brewery.
