Surfing Safari Adventure Tours of a lifetime – Durban South Africa!
We all come from the sea, but we are not all of the sea. Those of us who are, we children of the tides, must return to it again and again, until the day we don’t come back leaving only that which was touched along the way. ‘Frosty Hesson

Ask any surfer in South Africa about their best surf spots and you are in for a 6 hour conversation over a cold beer. And yes we have had many of those conversations and have identified our favorite spots for our tours. Having said that, we are still dealing with the ocean. And she is as unpredictable as an elephant on steroids. Some days it is warm and welcoming opening its arm to embrace our jolly surfers. Other days it explodes with its stormy tempers. So we do have pinpointed the coolest surf spots but sometimes we are forced to change the locations. But to give you an idea of possible spots we often use, here are a few: Southbroom, between Scottburgh and Margate and Amanzimtoti.
Typical Surf conditions
The Hibiscus Coast south of Durban is home to many reef and beach breaks. What does this mean in surfing language? Perfect hollow waves, especially early in the morning before the winds start to howl. The evenings all bring about perfect surfing conditions.

Our scheduled tours leave from Durban at 07H30. Travellers are picked up from any hotel by your Safari guide who will accompany you for the duration of your tour.
You will know who he is by his sun-bleached hair, cool friendly demeanour and array of surfboards straddled on the roof of the vehicle. The objective for the day is to head south along the Hibiscus coast looking for waves.
Once the best suitable spot has been chosen based on your experience, it’s on with the wetsuits, on with the surf wax and time to get wet. If you have never surfed before, the whole day is dedicated to surf lessons.
In the evening, we watch the sun set over the ocean with an ice cold beer before heading off to a surf camp for the evening. Dinner will be a ‘braai’ or BBQ for the rest of the world.
Maybe a cup of coffee before the surf. After a few hours of surfing we head on back to the camp for a well-earned breakfast.
The rest of the day is dedicated to a game drive and maybe some bungee jumping in Oribi Gorge, a nature reserve that is situated close by. Back in time for a late afternoon surf.
